Military Service and Journalism
During the Italian Wars of Independence in 1848 and 1860, Collodi served as a volunteer in the Tuscan army.
Following this, he pursued a career in journalism, contributing to various newspapers. His satirical essay-novel "A Romance in a Railroad Car" (1856) brought him early recognition.
